If you are applying a DC unregulated power supply to Microcontroller projects , you need to regulate it using a fixed regulator. Lot of my friends are asking which capacitor we need to use in input side and output side. Here you can see a typical voltage regulator circuit, you can use in microcontroller cuircuits.

Without good construction advice, the diagram and knowing the capacitor values is not all that useful. The C4 is not needed at all, and in fact can damage the reg. C1 and C2 should be physically close to the vreg, and have their leads shortened and connect close to the GND pin on the vreg. C3 may need to be a substantially larger value, depending on load.
