Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex will release its first beta on October 2nd and final release on 30th October 2008 whats new in it?
You can track upcoming changes on Launchpad and Ubuntu. There is no huge, revolutionary changes. There is new version of X.org server and Linux kernel.

There is also a new Network Manager namely 3G support. It promis advanced autoconfig features PPP and PPPOE.

Introduce a Guest Account, yes it is a great security solution (Guest have no access to other users’ files and they cannot save any files permanently).

Another nice feature is a new encrypted private directory (~/Private). There is no access to Other users to it (chmod 700).

A cleaner has been introduced for cleaning spare packages, old kernels and post-upgrades.

Ubuntu installation from USB pendrives is possible.

Faster start with reduced startup script.

Automatic installation of drivers will download and install drivers automatically, and it includes more graphics cards, wireless devices and printers.

GUI for font configuration.

Lot of other features Like Tabs in Nautilus , Fast application search in Synaptic, BIOS Software RAID/FakeRAID support, more Flash support, PackageKit integration, better power management, improvements in spell checking and menu structure.

How-To: Change Default Display Manager in Ubuntu 8.04

A display manager is a program that gives a graphical login screen and starts an X server session. Desktop environment KDE comes with Display manager kdm(KDM) and GNOME come with display manager gdm (GNOME).

Some time a user installs two or more desktop environments like kdm and gdm as display managers, and sometimes it's possible for the user to change default display manager . This can be done easily by using the command dpkg-reconfigure .

For example, if you installed KDE then GNOME, and the default display manager remained GDM, if you want change it use the following command : sudo dpkg-reconfigure kdm

The following commands can use for other display managers

dpkg-reconfigure gdm
dpkg-reconfigure xdm

If only one display manager is installed, the command will not respond.

  BABY - create new process from two parent processes

  /usr/5bin/BABY [ -sex ] [ -name ]

AVAILABILITY
  The System V version of this command is available with the Sys-
  tem  V  software  installation  option.  Refer to Installing
  SunOS 4.1 for information on how to install and invoke BABY.

DESCRIPTION
  BABY is initiated when one parent process polls another server
process through a socket connection (BSD) or through pipes in the
system V implementation. BABY runs at a low priority for approximately
40 weeks then terminates with heavy system load. Most systems require
constant monitoring when BABY reaches it's final stages of execution.

     Older implementations of BABY required that the initiating
process not be present at the time of completion, In these versions
the initiating process is awakened and notified of the results upon
completion. Modern versions allow both parent processes to be active
during the final stages of BABY.

     -sex
       option indicating type of process created.

RESULT
  Successful execution of the BABY(1) results in new process
  being created and named. Parent processes then typically
