AMD launches 12-core server chips Opteron 6000


The chip core war continues, AMD Opteron 6000-series "Magny-Cours" with twelve core will be released in the first quarter of 2010. AMD’s twelve-core Opteron “Magny-Cours” will compete against Intel’s eight-core Xeon MP “Nehalem-EX”. The new chips have 119 percent better performance than AMD’s earlier versions. It is designed for Server class machines.

x86_64  means it is 64 bit

How to Change The Language of Your Ubuntu Linux


 If you want to change your language settings  in Ubuntu , do the following

Select  System > Administration > Language Support. If  Ubuntu asks to install some additional packages, install these by clicking on INSTALL.

Now you can select your language from the supported Language List.  Click on Apply to install the language packages.

Select the default language in the  Default Language section . Click on OK.  This will effect from the next  time you start Ubuntu,

Virtual Consoles / Terminals in Ubuntu / Debian Linux

If you have not configured Ubuntu /Debian  automatically start a graphical environment during startup. If you want to kill a process from a hanged graphical environment, you need to open a virtual console or virtual terminal.
How to start a Virtual Consoles /  Terminals in ubuntu / Debian
Just press the following Keys

Alt+Ctrl+F1 (F1 to F6) . Using F1 to F6 You can open 6 Virtual Terminals.

this will ask for
ubuntu 9.10 abc-Desktop tty1
abc-Desktop login:

Now you can enter your username and password

Return to Graphical Screen by Pressing

Alt+Ctrl+F7

How to Migrate a Mysql Database with a simple method

If you want to migrate your Mysql Server, you want to export data from one MySQL server to another server, and then import the data to a new server,

It is very simple

Log in to First Server and give  the following command:

$ mysqldump -u root -p database-name >  filename.sql

 Now Copy the file to second server using FTP, SSH or with a USB Pendrive

On the second Server, you can import the data with the following command:

$ mysql -u root -p -D database-name <  filename.sql
